The best-known and best-selling American steam car was the Stanley Steamer which was produced between 1896 and 1924.   In fact, Stanley between 1899 and 1905 outsold all gasoline-powered cars, and was second only to Columbia Electric in US sales.  The Stanley Steamer used a compact fire-tube boiler to power a simple double-acting two-cylinder engine.  It generated enough torque that thStanley Steamer's engine was typically geared directly to rear axle thus eliminating the need for a transmission.  Prior to 1914, the Stanley Steamer vented its exhaust steam directly to the atmosphere which greatly limited this automobile's range.  After this year and until production ceased, Stanley Steamers incorporated a condenser, which greatly enhanced this automobile's range due to reduced water consumption.  In 1906, a Stanley Steamer driven by Fred Marriot achieved 127 m.p.h. in a clocked dash at Ormond Beach, Florida.  This record stood until 1910 and has never been broken by another steam powered automobile.  This older, out-of-production 1910 Stanley Steamer model includes the following features: 1) Black chassis; 2) Brass plastic trim; 3) Green plastic body; 4) Six rubber tires; 5) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in very good condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts and instructions inventoried.
