The United States Army Air Corps entered World War II with its sights set on using long range heavy bombers to strike targets in the daylight. The Parallel development to provide long range fighter cover to and from targets no matter how deep into enemy territory constantly lagged far behind. The 8th Air Force, having suffered horrible losses earlier in 1943, finally began to get long range fighter escorts from the 20th Fighter Group in December. Initially, the 20th Fighter Group flew the P-38J Lightning later converting to the P-51D Mustang in July, 1944. All told this fighter group destroyed a total of 449 enemy aircraft during its European deployment. Included in this book are 150 black and white photographs, 32 color profile paintings and 4 original period color photographs. This book is 80 pages and in like new condition. The author is Ron MacKay with Don Greer (Colorist) Edition published in 1995.
