The AC Shelby Cobra Roadster was designated the Mk. I series and was built in 1962 and 1963. The car was built in a joint venture between the British specialist manufacturer AC Cars, former American Racing driver Carroll Shelby and the Ford Motor Company. Approximately 51 Mk. I vehicles were equipped with Ford's 289 cu. in. small block V-8 engine and were quite successful on the European race circuit. While AC Cobra 2-door roadsters were manufactured in limited numbers in three variants from 1961 to 1967 and enjoyed success as high performance race cars, they were a financial failure which led Carroll Shelby and Ford Motor Company to cease importing this vehicle from England after 1967. Although AC Cars and Carroll Shelby parted ways after 1967, the former continued to produce various offshoots of this vehicle for the next 25 years. It was later confirmed as part of a lawsuit that only 2-door roadsters imported from AC Cars and modified by Carroll Shelby using Ford V-8 engines could be called "Cobras". This 289 Cobra Roadster scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic Cobra graphics; 2) Chrome parts; 3) Clear plastic glass windshield; 4) Custom top; 5) Detailed small block V-8 engine; 6) Detailed interior; 7)Flip-nose hood; 8) Hinged trunk; 9) Vinyl blackwall tires and 10) Illustrated assembly instructions.
