The movie, 3 Godfathers, was directed by legendary director, John Ford and is the fifth screen version of Peter B. Kyne's short story. The plot of this western parable centers on three cowboys who rob the town of Welcome, Arizona. After the robbery, one of the bandits is shot and they all take off across the sun-bleached desert. Pursued by Sheriff Buck Sweet, they stagger across the parched desert in search of water but instead happen upon a dying woman about to give birth in an abandoned wagon. Honoring the woman's dying wish to save the child, the three bandits head out across the burning plains for the town of New Jerusalem. After a long journey from which only one bandit survives, the child is brought safely to the town, as it turns out, on Christmas. This film has a dedicaiton at the beginning to the legendary Harry Carry, Sr. and includes some of the best photographed scenery seen in any western movie. Starring John Wayne, Pedro Armendariz and Harry Carey, Jr. among others. Full screen in color. Released in 1948. Runtime 103 minutes.
