The rare 1962 Impala SS was manufactured in the second year of the third generation of vehicles produced from 1961 to 1964 by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors. The 1962 Impala could be ordered in the following body styles: 1) 2-door convertible; 2) 2-door coupe; 3) 2-door hardtop; 4) 4-door hardtop; 5) 4-door sedan and 6) 4-door station wagon. Engine choices included the following: 1) 230 cu. in. I-6; 2) 283 cu. in. V-8; 3) 327 cu. in. V-8 and 4) 409 cu. in. V-8. Impala's featured premium interior amenities, plusher seats and more exterior chrome trim. An Impala equipped with the 409 cu. in. V-8 engine was the inspiration behind the Beach Boy' 1960s era hit single, "409" and help ensured this vehicle's long-term popularity.
