The book, A-6 Intruder Carrier Borne Bomber, represents a pictorial study of the famed A-6 Intruder's career from its inception up through the late 1980s. When the first A-6 Intruder made its maiden flight on April 19th 1960, it looked to many like a holdover from the 1950s as opposed to the design wave of the future. It was shaped like a tadpole and flew below the speed of sound. That said, the A-6 Intruder did what it was designed to do, carry heavy bomb loads in all types of weather and deliver them with precision on the designated targets. A big reason for this bomb dropping accuracy had to do with the use of a digital integrated attack and navigation system (DIANE). Another important factor had to do with the fact that the A-6 Intruder two man attack bomber included a bombardier-navigator whose primary responsibility was delivering ordnance on target. The A-6 Intruder was very effective at precision bombing during the Vietnam War when it was vitally important to fly missions in all types of weather. The A-6 Intruder continued to evolve during the 1970s and 1980s culminating in the A-6 F of 1988 which was considered by many to be the finest attack aircraft in the world at the time. While the production of the A-6 F was cancelled in 1988, variants of this famous fighter-bomber continued to be operated into the next millennium. In addition to an informative introduction and photograph captions, "A-6 Intruder Carrier-Bourne Bomber" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 95 black and white photographs; 2) About 17 color photographs; 3) 2 black and white aircraft side profile illustrations depicting two different paint schemes and 4) 2 black and white aircraft cut-away drawings with component identification. This book will certainly appeal to both the military aviation enthusiast and the modeler alike. This book is 54 pages and is in excellent condition. The author is Robert F. Dorr. Edition published in 1991.
