The book A-6 Intruder In Action (# 138) represents a pictorial study of the of the famed Grumman A-6 Intruder from its inception up through the early 1990s.  The A-6 Intruder was a twin jet engine mid wing two seat all-weather, carrier capable fighter bomber.  When the first A-6 Intruder made its maiden flight on April 19th 1960, it looked to many like a holdover from the 1950s as opposed to the design wave of the future.  That said, the A-6 Intruder did what it was designed to do, carry heavy bomb loads in all types of weather and deliver them with precision on the designated targets.  A big reason for this bomb dropping accuracy had to do with the use of a digital integrated attack and navigation system (DIANE).  Another important factor had to do with the fact that the A-6 Intruder two man fighter-bomber included a bombardier-navigator whose primary responsibility was delivering ordnance on target.  The A-6 Intruder was very effective at precision bombing during the Vietnam War when it was vitally important to fly missions in all types of weather.  The A-6 Intruder continued to evolve through the 1980s culminating with a proposed A-6 F and G variants.  The A-6 F was to have had both improved avionics and new jet engines while the A-6 G contemplated improved avionics but no new jet engines.  Both variants were ultimately cancelled.  The A-6 Intruder also evolved into the four seat EA-6B Prowler which represented a specialized electronic warfare series of carrier capable aircraft.  The major sections of "A-6 Intruder In Action (# 138) are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) A-6A Intruder; 3) A-6B; 4) A-6C; 5) KA-6D; 6) A-6E Standard; 7) A-6E TRAM (Target Recognition Attack Multi Sensor); 8) A-6E TRAM Composite Wing, Electronic Intruders; 9) EA-6B Prowler Standard; 10) EA-6B Prowler EXCAP (Expanded Capability); 11) EA-6B Prowler ICAP (Improved Capability); 12) EA-6B ICAP II (Improved Capability II); 13) EA-6B ICAP II Block 86 and 14) EA-6B ADVCAP (Advanced Capability).  In addition to an informative narrative, "A-6 Intruder In Action (# 138)" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 105 black and white photographs; 2) About 35 black and white illustrations; 3) 4 color illustrations; 4) 10 color side aircraft profile illustrations; 5) 1 three-view Grumman KA-6D black and white illustration with specifications; 6) 1 three-view Grumman A-6E TRAM Intruder black and white illustration with specifications; 7) 1 three-view Grumman EA-6B Prowler black and white illustration with specifications and 8) 3 color cover paintings.  Note: the price of this book reflects the fact that it has writing on the first inside page.  This book is 50 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is Joe Michaels Ph.D. with Don Greer & Tom Tullis (colorists) and Jow Sewell (illustrations).  Edition published in 1993.
