The book, Adolf Galland: A Pilot's Life In War And Peace chronicles the life of legendary World War II era Luftwaffe pilot and general Adolf Galland.  This pictorial survey of Adolf Galland's carreer begins by following Adolf Galland as he learns to fly gliders and then powered bi-plane and monoplane fighter aircraft for the Condor Legion fighting during the Spanish Civil War.  Early combat experienced learned in the skies over Spain served Adolf Galland well as he applied it next in the opening phases of World War II, first in the skies over Poland and then later during the Battles of France and Britain.  As Adolf Galland's victory score mounted, he was subsequently put in charge of Luftwaffe squadrons and air wings before becoming the operational chief of the all Luftwaffe fighters operating in Western Europe.  While he was retired for a short time late in the war due to his outspoken criticism of the Luftwaffe High Command, he managed to talk his superiors into allowing him in February of 1945 to form an all-jet Messerschmitt Me-262 fighter squadron filled with seasoned aces.  Unfortunately for Nazi Germany, this was too little, too late.  As the squadron began gearing up for sustained operations, Germany surrendered to the Allies in early May 1945.  By the time of Germany's surrender, Adolf Galland had accumulated 104 aerial victories making one of the highest scoring aces of all-time.  After a brief time of internment and questioning, General Galland moved to Argentina where from 1947 to 1955 he assisted the Argentinian Air Force in forming their first jet fighter squadrons flying the British Gloster Meteor.  Adolf Galland subsequently returned to West Germany where he set-up his own aircraft consultancy working with manufacturers and movie studios as a technical advisor.  The major sections of "Adolf Galland: A Pilot's Life In War And Peace" are as follows: 1) Acknowledgements; 2) Introduction by Werner Held; 3) Foreword by Sir Douglas Bader; 4) From Glider To Jet Pilot; 5) With The Condor Legion In Spain; 6) Flying The Henschel "One-Two-Three" In Poland; 7) Fighter Pilot Against France And Britain; 8) General Of The Fighters; 9) The "Channel Dash" Of February 1942; 10) Jagdverband 44; 11) American Interrogation; 12) Argentinian Interlude and 13) A New Start By Anton Weiler.   In addition to an informative narrative and picture captions, " Adolf Galland: A Pilot's Life In War And Peace" includes approximately 374 black and white photographs.  This book is 198 pages and is in very good condition but does have a small stain at the bottom of several pages.  The author is Werner Held with Anton Weiler (contributor).  Edition published in 1986.
