The German Arado AR-234 Blitz holds a place in aviation history as the world's first operational jet bomber. The AR-234 is one of World War II's landmark aircraft designs as it combined conventional airframe design with revolutionary jet engines. The book Aero Detail 16 Arado Ar 234 Blitz includes color photographs of virtually every detail of the Arado Ar 234 Blitz on display at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum and related Paul E. Gerber Preservation, Restoration and Storage Facility. This Ar-234 Blitz bomber is the only surviving example of this aircraft in the world today. The museum's Ar-234 Blitz twin engine bomber was, at the time of Germany's defeat, assigned to 8./KG76 and stationed at the Stabangel airfield near Sora, Norway. It was subsequently shipped to England with 9 other examples before being sent on to Wright field in Ohio and Freeman Field in Indiana for evaluation purposes. Having been thoroughly analyzed it was sent to the Gerber Preservation Facility in Maryland where it was stored for almost forty years before finally being restored and made ready for public review in 1989. This book is laid out by the different aircraft sections including; 1) Canopy & Cockpit; 2) Fuselage, 3) Nose Landing Gear; 4) Main Landing Gear; 5) Wings & Engines and 6) Tail.
