The book, Wings of Hope: The United States Air Force and Humanitarian Airlift Operations comes from a collection of books celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the United States Air Force in 1947.  This edition chronicles the development of the United States Air Force's humanitarian airlift operations from the early days of the Army Air Corps up through the mid 1990s.  As the author points out the compassionate code names for these operations including Provide Comfort, Provide Hope, Provide Promise, Provide Relief and Restore Hope illustrate America's determination to alleviate the suffering of those peoples less fortunate than ourselves around the globe.  The motives for providing this airlifted relief are pure and basically center on the American perpensity to try and assist the down and out.  People of the world who are displaced or hungry due to natural disaster, political reasons or war may need help and the Air Force's military airlift command has aircraft available in sufficient numbers to make a difference and they do.  The main sections of this book are as follows: 1) The Beginnings of Humanitarian Airlift; 2) Post-World War II through the Kprean War, 1945-1953; 3) From the Korean War to the Vietnam War, 1953-1965; 4) The Vietnam War Era, 1965-1973; 5) From the Vietnam War through the Gulf War, 1973-1991; 6) The Early Nineties, 1991-1994; 7) Wings of Hope; 8) Appendix and 9) Notes.  This book includes 32 vintage black and white photographs and one map.  This book is 52 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Daniel L. Haulman.  Edition published in 1997.
