The book, Air Heroes Of World War II, is a collection of short stories wrapped around a central theme as the author puts it "ordinary people performaing extraordinary feats, often with great courage". In this book the stories are about both Axis and Allied aviators who left their mark in terms of heroism while performing their duties as best they could. From beginning to end, this book tells of courage in the air from a low-level straffing attack by Royal Air Force pilots in the opening days of World War II through to a suicidal, Allied navy pilot's dive against a Japanese destroyer in the closing days of the war when such heroism was not required. After a brief introduction and list of illustrations, the book Air Heroes Of World War II covers 16 different tales of pilot heroism in the following chapters: 1) First Strike; 2) Battle Of The Winter; 3) Battle Over Norway; 4) The Bridges At Maastricht; 5) Double Survivor; 6) Ordeal In The Forrest; 7) Cover Of Darkness; 8) Duel In The Dark; 9) Target: Suicide; 10) Mosquito Mission; 11) Battle Of The Secret Weapons; 12) Target: Paris; 13) The Long Flight Back; 14) Last Flight From Berlin; 15) The Last VC and 16) Doomsday Mission. While this book is primarily filled with interesting text, there are 4 pages of vintage black and white photographs that will be of interest to the aviation entusiast. This book is 164 pages and is in excellent condition. The author is Robert Jackson with Grant Bradford (cover design) and James Hutcheson (illustrations). Edition published in 1978.
