The U.S.S. Saipan is one of the Navy's newest amphibious assualt ships.  It is twenty stories tall and three football fields long.  Although it looks like an aircraft carrier, the Saipan replaces conventional aircraft with helicopters.  Up to thirty Marine Corps helicopters can operate from the flight deck.  The Saipan's unique "well dock" located below the flight and hanger decks is accessed thorugh a giant 30 by 80 ' door at the rear of the ship which, in effect, creates an indoor harbor for landing craft.  The configuration of the Saipan also means that it can function very effectively on rescue missions.  Included in this kit are the following: 1) Propellers and shafts; 2) Opening well deck door; 3) Crash crane; 4) Boat crane; 5) Authentic U.S. Navy decal markings; 6) 4 launches; 7) Gun turrets and two Sea Sparrow missle launchers; 8) 2 - UH-1 helicopters; 9) 2 - CH-46 helicopters; 10) 2 - Ch-53 helicopters and 11) Fully illustrated instructions.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
