The prototype two seat Auster AOP (Air Observation Post) Mk. VI made its first flight on May 1, 1945 just prior to the end of World War II. Production deliveries to the Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) began in September, 1946. The Mk. VI served during the Malayan emergency, in Germany, the Middle East and in the United Kingdom. The Mk. VI remained in service until 1955 when the Mk. IX began replacing it. The Auster AOP Mk. VI was powered by a 145 h.p. de Haviland Gipsy Major engine and had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of 124 m.p.h. and 2) Service ceiling of 14,000 feet. This older Austor AOP VI model is molded in gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic R.A.F. markings for an Austor AOP VI flown in the immediate post World War II era; 2) Choice of landing gear including floats, skis or wheels; 3) Clear plastic cockpit; 4) Pilot figure; 5) Simulated fabric covering; 6) Painting guide and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in excellent condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
