The Avro Lancaster was a British, four engine "heavy bomber" built for the Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) Bomber Command. It was introduced in 1942 and was used primarily in nighttime bombing missions over Europe during World War II. In addition to the R.A.F., the Lancaster was flown by the Royal Canadian Air Force and had some R.A.F. squadrons staffed by aircrew from many other Commonwealth Countries. The Lancaster carried a crew of seven and almost 7,400 units from all variants were manufactured before production ceased. The operational characteristics of the Lancaster are as follows: 1) Top speed of approximately 280 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of around 3,000 miles and 3) Service ceiling of almost 24,000 feet. The Lancaster was armed with eight .303 caliber machine guns and could carry a bomb load of up to 22,000 lbs. This Avro Lancaster B. I scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for 3 R.A.F. aircraft; A) ED888, PM*M, B) ND458, HW*A and C) 'Johnny Walker' PA474, WS*J; 2) Basic Cockpit; 3) Bomb bay with bombs (4,000 HC bomb and six 200lb bombs); 4) Clear plastic cockpit and fuselage glass areas; 5) Hinged ailerons and elevators; 6) Optional HS2 radar fairing; 7) Optional position bomb bay doors; 8) Optional position landing gear; 9) Raised rivets; 10) Recessed panel lines 11) Two seated crew figures and 12) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in new condition. Never started and factory sealed.
