The documentary film, B-24's At War (Series II) includes archival film coverage of the following segments titled: 1) The Mission and 2) Report From The Aleutians.  The Mission film features the 44th Bomb Group under the command of Col. Leon Johnson in preparation for a "typical" mission.  It includes all the details from fueling, bomb-loading, engine start-up, take-off, enemy flak & fighters, target strikes and return to base.  Also of interest is the filming of several crash landings including a one-wheel landing by Lt. Griffith.  This film segment represents a comprehensive "true-to-life" account of what a combat mission was all about.  The Report From The Aleutians film documents the harsh weather conditions under which servicemen from many branches of the United States military constructed an all-weather airfield on Adak.  While constructing this airfield's runway, these men were exposed to the rigors of high winds and weather including fog, hail, sleet, pouring rain and squalls.  Remarkable sequences show B-24 Liberator bombers along with P-38 Lightning and P-39 Airacobra fighters taking off on water covered runways.  Also included in this film segment is coverage on the Battle of Dutch Harbor, which includes film taken from a camera inside a B-24.  The viewer will see B-24s dropping bombs at both high and low altitudes on entrenched Japanese positions on Kiska.  This segment is a remarkable account of U.S. military dedication, bravery and skill.  The Report from The Aleutians is narrated by legendary film producer John Huston.  Full screen in black & white and color.  Released in 1990.  Runtime 65 minutes.
