In the summer of 1989, Batman returned to the big screen for the first time since 1966.  While the 1960s era Batman television series had a lighter comedic side to it, the movie Batman, starring Michael Keaton, had a "darker" take on the caped crusader.  This movie also saw the introduction of an all new Batmobile designed by Anton Furst.  Warner Brothers executives wanted the Batmobile to be unlike any previous incarnation, a combination of "brute force and classic design aesthetics".  The actual car was built by splicing two Chevrolet Impala chassis together and was powered with a Chevy V-8 engine.  The body was custom made from the ground up.  It featured centerline mounted turbine engine, "mandible-like" front fenders and cold air intakes for the "afterburner" which were located just ahead of the rear fenders.  This new Batmobile was used for the movies Batman and Batman Returns.  It was retired after the second of these two movies.  This older, out-of-production 62 piece Batman Batmobile includes the following features: 1) Armament including fender-mounted removable machine guns and a grappling hook; 2) Clear plastic window glass areas; 3) Detailed chassis including engraved gas turbine and afterburner; 4) Detailed interior including aircraft-style instrument panel, multi-handled shift quadrant and twin bucket seats; 5) Removable canopy; 6) Vinyl blackwall race tires and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in very good condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
