The book, Boeing B-17 B-H Flying Fortress In USAAF-USAF-USN-USMC-USCG-RAF-French-Danish-Portuguese-IDF/AF-Dominican & Brazilian AF Service (# 17) is part of Arco-Aircam Aviation Series of publications dedicated to reviewing each famous aircraft with documented black and white vintage photographs, color side view illustrations and color aircraft insignia.  The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the first of the great American four engine strategic bombers available in large numbers to strike back at the Axis forces during World War II.  The B-17s were called flying fortresses because they could carry defensive armament of 10 to 12 .50 caliber machine guns and could carry bomb loads of nearly 5,000 pounds.  The B-17 G was the final mass produced variant of this venerable American World War II era four engine strategic bomber.  While it flew in many different American and foreign bomber forces, it will forever be remembered as perhaps the greatest American bomber to operate in the European combat theater during World War II as part of the Eighth Air Force.  While after World War II the B-17 was largely withdrawn from front line American military service, small numbers continued to be flown by foreign air forces well into the 1950s.  In addition to an informative 5 page narrative history of the "Boeing B-17 B-H Flying Fortress" variants and theaters of operations, this book includes the following features: 1) Approximately 110 black and white photographs; 2) 2 black and white illustrations; 3) 40 color side view illustrations and 4) 3 pages of black and white small plan-view drawings showing the upper and lower surfaces of the aircraft.  This book is 50 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Ernest R. McDowell with Richard Ward (illustrations).  Edition published in 1970.
