The book, Britannia 767 - Prestwick To Orlando (From The Flightdeck # 6) series of books follows the journey of a modern twin jet engine Boeing 767 from its boarding and takeoff out of Prestwick, Scotland to its destination of Orlando, Florida often referred to as the "Sunshine State". By way of an introduction, the author makes the case that until the advent of the wide-bodied, four jet engine Boeing 747 and the three jet engine Douglas DC-10 jets, trans-Atlantic air travel was reserved for travelers with above average budgets. Also highlighted is the fact that while British charter-flight carrier Britannia Airways initially was in the trans-Atlantic air passenger business flying Boeing 707 during the 1960s, when high fuel prices became the norm in the early 1970s they abandoned these flights. The advent of the modern twin jet engine Boeing 767 which was given Extended Range Twin Engine operations (EROPS) approval in November, 1988 set the stage for Britannia Airways entry back into the trans-Atlantic air travel market. The proven reliability of large twin jet aircraft like the Boeing 767 allowed them by the late 1980s to more economically haul passengers on trans-ocean flights. With this background in mind, the author switches his attention to the many activities that need to be successfully completed before, during and after a trans-Atlantic flight.
