The book, Camouflage & Markings: Supermarine Spitfire - RAF Northern Europe (1936 - 45) Number 1, is a concise but authoritative review of the paint schemes and markings used on the Supermarine Spitfire as operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in Northern Europe between 1936 and the end of World War II in 1945.  This book reviews the many changes in both paint schemes and markings that were used on the various marks of Spitfires produced during this ten-year timeframe.  In general, the paint schemes evolved based on changes in the operational requirements faced by the RAF units flying this legendary fighter.  In the E.T.O., the tops and sides of the Spitfire were usually painted with a disruptive camouflage scheme incorporating Dark Earth and Dark Green.  The undersides of the Spitfires flown in Europe tended to be standard Aluminum (silver) finish.  The national insignia in the form of the "roundels" painted on the fuselage and wings changed a number of times usually by changing the outer ring of the roundel, as well as, the size of the marking.  Also, during the period of the D-day landings in Europe on June 6 and until the following September, Spitfires carried invasion stripes.  Once airfields had been established on the continent, the invasion strips were deleted and the overall appearance on the aircraft sides and top reverted to the standard camouflage pattern.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Camouflage & Markings: Supermarine Spitfire - RAF Northern Europe (1936 - 45) Number 1" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 24 black and white photographs; 2) 8 color illustrations; 3) 1 aircraft three-view aircraft camouflage & marking illustration; 4) 2 pages of Under Surface Color Schemes; 5) 2 pages of Upper Surface Color Schemes and 6) 1 aircraft five-view color illustration of Spitfire Vb, AB 183 of No. 303 'Kosciuszko' (Polish) Squadron, Royal Air Force.  This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in building an accurate Supermarine Spitfire, E.T.O. scaled model.  This book is 24 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is James Goulding.  No edition publishing date given.
