The movie, Captain Corelli's Mandolin centers on Captain Antonio Corelli, an Italian officer whose company of soldiers is sent to Cephallonia which is a beautiful Greek island untouched by war.  Captain Corelli is a free spirit with a passion for music and romance not war.  He quickly becomes enchanted by Cephallonia and its people especially Pelagia, the beautiful , proud daughter of the island's doctor.  Engaged to a local fisherman, Pelagia initially resist's Corelli's attentions.  Pelagia gradually weakens her defenses surrendering her heart to the Captain.  Before their love can grow, the war comes crashing in with the landing of German troops on the shores of their beloved Cephallonia.  Captain Corelli and Pelagia quickly have to make dangerous sacrifices for country and home and risk losing each other forever.  Starring Nicolas Cage, Penelope Cruz and John Hurt among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 2001.  Runtime 129 minutes.
