The Cessna Skymaster made its first flight in August 1962 and was designated the 336.  In February 1965 the retractable gear Model 337 Skymaster entered production.  While originally envisioned as a civilian aircraft, the United States Air Force soon identified the civil Skymaster as being potentially useful in the war in Vietnam and purchased a large quantity of what was essentially the civilian version in military paint.  Designated the O-2 B, the Skymaster found wide use in the psychological warfare role, as it announced messages over loudspeakers mounted on its sides.  By late 1966, the United States Air Force determined that the O-2 A could be modified to take over the full range of missions previously performed by the single engine O-1 Bird Dog.  The O-2 A was built with additional windows in the upper and right fuselage sides, new communications electronics and strengthened wings with four under-wing pylons that could carry useful stores such as rockets, flares and 7.62 mm miniguns.  Before production of the O-2 A variant was ended, approximately 500 units had been manufactured and 23 nations went on to fly this aircraft.  More recently, O-2 As have been flown by the United States Navy in bombing range control missions while surplus aircraft have been flown in the control of fire bombers as these aircraft perform their borane drops over burning forests.  The O-2 A carries a crew of one to two and has a top speed of about 206 mph and a range of 780 miles.  This Cessna O-2 A Skymaster scaled model has authentic markings for the following two aircraft: 1) U. S. Air Force O-2 A, FAC (Forward Air Controller), Bien Hoa AB, South Vietnam 1969 and 2) U. S. Navy O-2 A, VFA-125 “Rough Riders”, NAS Fallon, Las Vegas, Nevada 1989.  Other features included in this scaled model are as follows: 1) Clear plastic windscreen and fuselage “glass” areas; 2) Choice of propellers for either the United States Air Force O-2 A or the United States Navy O-2 B; 3) Detailed cockpit; 4) Detailed landing gear; 5) Molded in light gray colored plastic; 6) Recessed panel lines; 7) Spinning propellers; 8) Under-wing gun and rocket pods and 9) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in new condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
