The book, Color Schemes And Markings U.S. Navy Aircraft (1911 - 1950), is a very comprehensive reference work privately authored and published in Canada. This book follows the many changes in color schemes and markings used by United States Naval Aviation from its uncertain beginning in 1911 to its entry into the Korean War in 1950 as a Naval "super power". This book reviews the following: 1) Standard and special purpose color schemes; 2) National and unit markings and 3) Carrier identification markings and designation systems. The color schemes and markings are illustrated by many drawings and approximately 74 vintage black and white photographs. This book adds a further dimension by reviewing in detail squadron tail markings and special markings which are illustrated through the use of colored drawings. Also included in the back of this book are Carrier Aircraft Assignment tables for the period of 1926 to 1945. This book is 179 pages and in very good condition with some "yellowing" of the white pages due to age. The author is Bill C. Kilgrain with Bill C. Kilgrain (illustrations). Edition published in 1973.
