The book, Consolidated B-24 D-M Liberator In USAAF-RAF-RAAF-MLD-IAF-CzechAF & CNAF Service And PB4T-1/2 In USN-USMC-Aeronavale & CNAF Service (No. 12 - Vol. 1) is part of Arco-Aircam Aviation Series of publications dedicated to reviewing each famous aircraft with documented black and white vintage photographs, color side view illustrations and color aircraft insignia.  The B-24 Liberator was a four engine heavy bomber manufactured primarily by Consolidated Aircraft Company and the Ford Motor Company during World War II.  While not as famous as its cousin the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, it was produced in greater numbers than any other aircraft flown by any branch of American military service.  By way of comparison, while to some the B-24 was more difficult to fly then the older B-17, it was a more modern design with a higher top speed, greater range and capable of carrying a heavier bomb-load.  The B-24 attained a distinguished war record with its operations in the China-Burma-India, Mediterranean, Pacific and Western Europe combat theaters.  In addition to flying strategic bombing missions, it was used on anti-submarine, reconnaissance and search & rescue missions.  Perhaps the most famous missions flown by the B-24 Liberator were those targeting the Polesti oil refineries in Romania.  Despite heavy losses, B-24s flown from bases in North Africa and later Italy eventually totally destroyed the Polesti refineries, which reportedly provided upwards of a third of the total oil production necessary to run the German war machine during World War II.  In addition to an informative seven page narrative history of the "Consolidate B-24 D-M Liberator" variants, this book includes the following features: 1) Approximately 106 black and white photographs; 2) 2 black and white illustrations; 3) 52 color side view illustrations and 4) 3 pages of black and white small plan-view drawings showing the upper and lower surfaces of the aircraft.  This book is 50 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Ernest R. McDowell with Richard Ward (illustrations).  Edition published in 1970.
