The LTV A7 Corsair II light attack jet aircraft first entered service with the United States Navy in February 1967 and immediately developed a reputation of being a rugged fighter-bomber that could deliver ordnance on target with great precision.  The origins of the Corsair II actually dated back to a design contest held in 1963 for a fighter-bomber capable of replacing the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk then in United States Navy service.  The A-7 Corsair first flew on September 27, 1965 and within two years was equipping many carrier based shipboard fighter-bomber squadrons.  The A-7 Corsair II entered combat during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. “Ranger” in December 1967.  In October 1966, the United States Air Force ordered the A-7 D variant with an Allison-built Rolls Royce RB jet engine, more advanced avionics and a 20 mm rotary cannon.  Additional more updated variants were subsequently developed as well.  The A-7 Corsair II had six under wing stores pylons that were capable of carrying a wide variety of ordnance.  The A-7 Corsair II had the following operational characteristics: 1) Cruise speed of 532 mph and 2) Combat radius of 512 miles.  This older, out-of-production 75 piece Corsair II scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for an A-7 Corsair II operated by the United States Navy off of the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk; 2) Clear plastic two-piece canopy; 3) Can be built with folded wings; 4) Five crew figures; 5) Detailed landing gear bay; 6) Molded in white colored plastic; 7) Parts included to build either the United States Navy or Air Force variants; 8) Recessed panel lines; 9) Twenty-six bombs and two rockets; 10) Painting guide and 11) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in very good condition with minor wear on the edges and corners.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
