The book, Corvette: America's Sports Car represents a pictorial historical study of America's best-loved sports car, from the inaugural 1953 edition to today's exotic C6 generation.  In the early 1950s show cars were all the rage yet most of these eye-catching exercises ever made it to production.  From this perspective, the Chevrolet Corvette was an exception.  First revealed at a New York Motorama show, the production launch of the Corvette got off to a "rocky" start and so unsettling were its troubles that General Motor's management almost cancelled the new sports car.  The Corvette was saved from the dustbin of automotive history through the effort of a few internal ardent supporters who kept it alive.  Complaints were dealt with, a redesign initiated and Chevy's sports car was "born anew".  Since then, this stunning study in fiberglass has evolved through six generations and has gone on to worldwide fame and recognition.  Along the way, however, the domestic auto manufacturers have gone through a number of prolonged economic downturns yet the Chevrolet Corvette has managed to survive and even thrive when many automotive marquees saw their sales plummet.  During the 1990s, the Chevrolet Corvette grew into a "world-class sports car" and today it represents the yardstick by which any new entrants are judged.  The major sections of "Corvette America's Sports Car" are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) Chapter 1 - Before Corvette; 3) Chapter 2 - Motorama Corvette; 4) Chapter 3 - C1 1953-62 including (Part-1 - 1953-1955, Part-2 - 1956-1957 & Part-3 - 1958-1962); 5) Chapter 4 - C2 1963-1967; 6) Chapter 5 - 1968-1982 including (Part 1 - 1968-1977 & Part 2 - 1978-1982); 7) Chapter 6 - C4 1984-1996 including (Part 1 - 1984-1990 & Part 2 - 1991-1996); 8) Chapter 7 - C5 1997-2004 and 9) Chapter 8 C6 2005-.  "Corvette America's Sports Car" tells Corvette's exciting story with a lively collection of period ads, brochures, factory images, styling studies and vivid full-color photographs of immaculate restorations.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Corvette America's Sports Car" more specifically includes the following features: 1) Approximately 48 black and white photographs; 2) About 374 color photographs and 3) Approximately 22 color illustrations.  This book is 320 pages and is in excellent condition.  Published by the automotive editors of Consumer Guide.  Edition published in 2006.
