The book, Corvette, chronicles with pictures the launch of the legendary Corvette by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors in 1953 and the continued evolution of this extraordinary American Sports car up through the early 1980s. In the early 1950s the post World War II car market was booming but Chevrolet while moderately successful in the market was gaining a reputation as a car manufacturer that produced every-day, six cylinder powered non-descript four-door vehicles. General Motors styling chief, Harley Earl and Chevrolet's head of engineering Ed Cole made plans to break this stodgy image by designing and building a two door American sports car. The prototype Corvette was revealed at New York's Waldorf Hotel in January, 1953 to rave reviews. Chevrolet went on to manufacture 300 Corvettes in 1953 all delivered white a Pearl White exterior color and red interior. The 1953 Corvette while a true classic automobile was under powered a problem that was ultimately resolved later in the initial model run by using Chevrolet's new V-8 engine. The evolution of the Corvette saw a number of new vehicle generations put into production in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s and the rest as they say is history. The major sections of "Corvette" are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) Dream designs...fabulous cars; 3) A decade of decision; 4) Forging ahead - 1963-67; 5) Leading the pack - 1968-82 and 6) 1984 and beyond. In addition to an informative narrative and photograph captions, this book includes approximately 68 high quality color photographs. This book is 64 pages and is in very good condition. The author is Nick Baldwin with Tom Falconer. Edition published in 1984.
