The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk which was also known as the Tomahawk and Kittyhawk to the British and Commonwealth Countries was an American, single engine, single seat fighter that saw extensive front line action during the first part of World War II. When the U.S. entered World War II shortly after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, the P-40 was considered the best American fighter available for combat. Over 13,700 of all variants were produced during the war with many examples being exported to the R.A.F., R.A.A.F., R.N.Z.A.F. and to the Soviet Union. The P-40 N which is the subject of this kit represented the final production model and was manufactured in 1943 and 1944. It featured a stretched rear fuselage to counter the torque of the larger late-war Allison engine, had modifications made to the cockpit to improve the pilots range of vision and included a concerted effort to reduce the weight of the fully armed and loaded aircraft. A subvariant of the N model was able to achieve a top speed of 380 m.p.h. but did so, in part, by removing two .50 caliber machine guns. Included in this out-of-production 50 piece kit are the following: 1) Detailed cockpit; 2) Detailed landing gear; 3) Recessed panel lines and 4) Illustrated assembly instructions. Also included are authentic markings for the following two aircraft: 1) 15th Fighter Group, 45th Fighter Squadron and 2) "Rosy the Riviter" of the 49th Fighter Group, 7th Fighter Squadron. The box is in excellent condition. Never started and factory sealed.
