The United States Navy's small Sparrowhawks operated from dirigibles during the 1930s and were among the most colorful fighters of the era. They used the dirigibles as flying aircraft carriers and could launch and be recovered while the lighter-than-air airship was aloft and flying. The Sparrowhawks were used primarily in conjunction with the United States Ship Akron and the United States Ship Macon although they also briefly operated from the conventional aircraft carrier United States Ship Lexington. This older, out-of-production Sparrowhawk model is highly detailed and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for six different aircraft operating from either airship; 2) Detailed cockpit; 3) Monofilament rigging; 4) Two types of wheels (hard and flexible tires); 5) Paint guide and 6) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in like-new condition. Never started and factory sealed.
