The Jaguar 'D' type was a factory built, limited production race car that was initially powered by a straight-6 3.4 Liter engine which was eventually up-rated to a larger 3.8 L motor.  The 'D' type introduced a monocoque chassis to competition car design.  It also demonstrated that car designers had an aeronautical understanding of aerodynamic efficiency.  Production of the 'D' type occurred between 1954 and 1957.  In all, slightly more than 50 'D' Types for customers were manufactured before production ceased in 1957.  After Jaguar withdrew from racing, however, about 16 unfinished 'D' Types were converted into the road-going Jaguar XKSS by adding an extra seat, another door, a full-width windshield and a soft-top.  In addition to the 'D' Type and XKSS road cars, approximately 18 factory team cars were also constructed.  The Jaguar 'D' Type is among the most coveted race-cars among affluent car collectors today.  This older, out-of-production 'D' Jaguar includes the following features: 1) Authentic racing decals; 2) Beautiful box art; 3) Clear windshield and light lenses; 4) Detailed seat, instrument panel and steering wheel; 5) Electric kit motor; 6) Molded in racing yellow; 7) Race driver and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
