The plot of the film, Deep Impact, centers on a comet that is on a collision course with Earth.  As a backdrop to the potential end of civilization on Earth, a handful of Americans make different preparations for the end of the world.  While Leo Biederman, the fourteen-year old amateur astronomer who discovered the comet, deals with the tug of his first love, an ambitious newswoman attempts to reconcile with her divorced and estranged parents.  While these storys are unfolding, NASA is racing against time to put a team of astronauts in space in order to set-off nuclear charges on the comet and in so doing deflect its collision course with Earth.  Among the choosen astronauts is a former astronaut who had many years earlier piloted a lunar landing on the moon.  Although a relic from the past, he quickly becomes an important part of the mission to save the planet.  The only question that remains is whether or not this group of intrepid astronauts will be able to carry off the mission of a lifetime.  Starring Robert Duvall, Elijah Wood and Morgan Freeman among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1998.  Runtime 121 minutes.
