Design of the French Dewoitine 520 single engine, single seat fighter started in November, 1936 and the first prototype flew in October, 1938. Production deliveries of the D.520 began in January, 1940 and by the time Germany invaded France on May 10, 1940, 79 GC 1/3 was equipped with 79 planes. By the time of the armistice at the end of June, 1940, 437 D.520s had been built with 351 of them being delivered to front-line units. The combat record of this aircraft showed that in the hands of a skilled pilot, ther airplane could hold its own against the Luftwaffe's Me-109E variant. Additional copies of this fighter were produced in 1941 for Vichy France and some of these planes saw action during Operation Torch. Some examples were exported to Bulgaria and Italy. Postwar, a small number of the D.520s were used as trainers serving in this role until 1953. This older, out-of-production model from the 1960s of the Dewoitine D.520 is an all plastic, easy assembly kit that includes instructions and authentic markings. The model box is in excellent condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
