The Chance Vought F4U-4 Corsair originated from a United States Navy design contest in 1938 that called for a carrier based single seat, single wing high performance fighter.  The Corsair’s designers aimed at building the fastest shipboard fighter in the world.  Based on the Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp engine, the V166 B design was approved and a prototype built for initial test flying in early 1939.  The powerful engine required an enormous airscrew be used and the unique “gull-wing” design ensured adequate ground clearance for the four- blade propeller while keeping the undercarriage length to a minimum.  The British Royal Navy was the first military organization to operate the corsair from aircraft carriers and the United States Marine squadrons operated the Corsair from ground bases during World War II.  This older, out-of-production F4U-4 scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for USA Marine Training Squadron VFMT.20 Aircraft No. 14 & US Marine Squadron VMF 211 Aircraft No. 8; 2) Clear single piece canopy; 3) Molded in two navy and medium blue colors; 4) Recessed panel lines; 5) Seated pilot figure; 6) Spinning propeller; 7) Painting guide and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in good condition with remnants of original tape on both ends of the package.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
