The Chance Vought F4U-1 Corsair is regarded by many as being the best radial- engine powered aircraft coming out of of World War II.  It was considered the equal of the North American P-51 Mustang below 20,000 feet and superior to it at higher altitudes.  During World War II this primarily carrier based fighter was used by both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.  During World War II the F4U Corsair sustained a kill ration of 13.3 to 1.  It was known as a rugged, fast and very maneuverable fighter that could act equally well as pure fighter and fighter-bomber.  It's unique "gull" wing came about as a solution to the need to lift the fighter up sufficient to allow the large four bladed propeller to clear the ground.  The F4U Corsair served with the British Navy and Royal New Zealand Air Force during the latter stages of World War II.  This very successful fighter went on to be utilized during the Korean War.  In a similar manner to the North American P-51 Mustang, most Corsairs were finally retired from front line service during the late 1950s.  This older, out-of-production F4U-I Corsair kit comes with authentic markings for the following three aircraft: 1) U.S. Marine Reserve, Columbus, "C"; 2) From U.S. aircraft carrier Bunker Hill, February, 1944 and 3) Royal New Zealand Air Force, 14th Squadron, Guadacanal, 1945.  Also included with this model are the following: 1) A color paint guide and 2) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in very good condition.   Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
