.   The P-80 Shooting Star, later redesignated the F-80 was the first operational jet fighter used by the then United States Army Air Forces.  It saw extensive combat during the Korean war and a two seat variant of the jet fighter went on to become the T-33 Advanced Jet Trainer.  After the United States Air Force was officially designated as its own branch of service the P for pursuit was changed to F for fighter and the F-80 designation was adopted.  In all, just over 1,700 units of all variants were produced before production was halted for more modern jet fighters like North American's F-86 Sabre.  The operational characteristics of this famous fighter are as follows: 1) Top speed of 600 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of 1,200 miles and 3) Service Ceiling of 46,000 feet.  The F-80's armament consisted of six .50 caliber machine guns and provisions to carry two 1,000 lb bombs and eight unguided rockets.  The F-80 C Shooting Star variant, which is the subject of this kit, incorporated a more powerful J-33-A-35 engine, an ejection seat and more internal fuel capacity.  This older F-80 C Shooting Star model is molded in gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for two different F-80 jet fighters as operated by the United States Air Force; 2) Clear plastic canopy; 3) Clear plastic display stand; 4)  Externally mounted bombs; 5) Externally mounted fuel drop tanks; 6) One pilot figure; 7) Recessed panel lines and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in mint condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
