The book, F-84 Thunderjet In Action (# 61) represents a pictorial study of the Republic F-84 Thunderjet which was a post World War II era straight wing, jet powered American "day" fighter bomber.  The F-84 Thunderjet was introduced into the New United States Air Force in late 1947.  The "definitive" version of the straight-wing F-84 Thunderjet was the G variant, which was capable of carrying a Mark 7 nuclear bomb and being refueled in flight.  The F-84 G could in fact carry up to a 4,500-pound bomb load and carried six .50 caliber Browning machine guns.  This last of the straight-wing variants also had an "autopilot" and instrument landing system.  In an attempt to remain competitive with the North American F-86 which was introduced in the early 1950s, Republic Aircraft Corporation brought out a swept-wing variant of the F-84 and named it the Thunderstreak.  While the F-84 F appeared like an entirely new fighter, it included approximately 60% of the older F-84 G components.  A RF-84 F reconnaissance variant was also produced and named the Thunderflash.  Both the straight-wing and sweptback wing F-84 versions were utilized extensively during the Korean War.  The F-84 was retired from active service in the late 1950s but some units were reactivated for use by a number of U.S. Air National Guard squadrons up through the early 1970s.  The major sections of "F-84 Thunderjet In Action (# 61)" are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) P-84 B; 3) F-84 C; 4) F-84 D; 5) F-84 E; 6) F-84 G; 7) F-84 F Thunderstreak; 8) The RF-84 F Thunderflash and 9) Korea.  In addition to an informative narrative, "F-84 Thunderjet In Action (# 61)" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 87 black and white photographs; 2) About 38 black and white illustrations; 3) 8 color illustrations; 4) 10 color side aircraft profile illustrations; 5) 1 three-view F-84 G black and white illustration with specifications; 6) 1 three-view F-84 F black and white illustration with specifications; 7) 1 three-view RF-84 F black and white illustration with specifications and 8) 3 color cover paintings.  This book is 50 pages and is in excellent condition.  The authors are Larry Davis and David Menard with Don Greer (illustrations).  Edition published in 1983
