The Firefly prototype aircraft was developed from the Fairey Fulmar and first flew in December 1941.  By 1944, Firefly's were operating from the H.M.S. Indefatigable and Implacable.  Their first taste of combat came when they were used in July 1944 in an attack on the German Tirpitz Battleship.  Fireflys were later used in attacks on Japanese oil refineries.  They also were the first British aircraft to fly over Tokyo.  The Firefly was powered by a 1,730 horsepower Rolls Royce Griffon IIB engine which gave it a top speed of 316 m.p.h. and a service ceiling of 28,000 feet.  Armament consisted of four 20 mm cannon and either eight 60 pound rockets or two 1,000 pound bombs.  This older Firefly F.Mk. 1 Naval Fighter scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a Firefly as flown by either 860 Sqn., Royal Dutch Naval Air Service, Perat Air Field Northern Sumatra, 1946 or H.M.C.S. Magnificent, Royal Canadian Navy, 1950; 2) Detailed cockpit; 3) Detailed landing gear; 4) Eight rockets; 5) Molded in dark green plastic; 6) Multi-piece canopy; 7) Observer and pilot figures; 8) Recessed panel lines and 9) Illustrated assembly instructions.  Note: this model is missing the original action display stand.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and 100% complete accept as otherwise noted with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
