When the Focke Wulf Fw 190 first appeared on the Western European front in the Autumn of 1941 it gave the Allied air forces quite a shock as it was a very formidable opponent. It could out-turn, out-run and out-dive the Supermarine Spitfire V which was the best fighter the British R.A.F. then had. While the Spitfire V could out-turn the Fw 190, the latter had a superior roll rate. The fasinating and remarkable story of the Fw 190 is told in the book Focke Wulf 190 At War which is actually a series of chapters or sections devoted to different aspects of this famous airplane many told based on first hand accounts of the surviving pilots who flew them. Included in this book are the following chapters / sections: 1) Introduction; 2) Concept To Fruition; 3) Initial Flight Testing; 4) Focke Wulf 190 In Service; 5) To Hijack a Focke Wulf; 6) Unsolicited Testimonials; 7) In Defence Of The Reich; 8) Focke Wulf 190 Rocket Firer; 9) Focke Wulf 190 Night Fighter; 10) Mediterranean Jabo; 11) Russian Front Focke Wulfs; 12) Aces In The West; 13) No Place For A Beginner; 14) If Necessary By Ramming; 15) The Luck Of The Game; 16) Eastern Front Jabo; 17) Ferrying The Focke Wulf; 18) Enter The Long-Nosed Dora; 19) An Introduction To Beethoven; 20) Night Jabo and 21) Finale.
