By way of a background, the Ford Motor Company launched its own effort to build a GT prototype in 1963.  In the early 1960s, Ferrari manufactured the most powerful Grand Prix racecars.  The Ferrari dominance lead Ford to make overtures towards acquiring this storied Italian sports car manufacturer in order to have a leg-up in competing in the Le Mans endurance race.  When Ferrari spurned Ford, the latter decided to enter into a one-year arrangement with Eric Broadlay and concurrently acquired the manufacturing rights for the Roala GT.  With Broadlay's assistance, Ford designed and built the GT-40 Mark II racecar.  This vehicle debuted at the 1964 New York Auto Model show.  The Ford GT-40 Mark II had a semi-monocoque configuration, was a mere 40 inches high and was powered by a Ford 7 L V-8 engine that developed 485 horsepower.  Ford began racing the GT-40 Mark II in 1964 and gained a quick one two three finish in the Daytona 24-hour race.  In the 1964, Ford GT-40 Mark II's also handily beat Ferrari's and had a one two three finish again this time at Le Mans.  This older Ford GT-40 Mark II scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic racing decals; 2) Clear plastic windshield, cockpit glass areas and light lenses; 3) Detailed chassis; 4) Detailed engine; 5) Detailed interior; 6) Hood can be displayed in the closed or open position; 7) Metal detail etching parts; 8) Molded in black colored plastic; 9) Racing wheels; 10) Vinyl black racing tires and 11) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in good condition with two small repaired holes in the lower left and right side of the box top.   Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
