The book, Fox Two: America's First Ace in Vietnam, tells the fascinating story of Commander Randy Cunningham becoming the first American "ace" during the Vietnam War.  While "Fox Two: America's First Ace in Vietnam" focuses on the life and death aerial combat over the jungles on North and South Vietnam, it would not be complete without telling the story of the U.S.S. Constellation and the men who sailed her.  In telling this story, this book reveals the feelings, thoughts and actions during the ordeal of the Vietnam War.  While Commander Cunningham and his fellow Navy and Air Force pilots did not win every fighter-to-fighter engagement, more often than not, they did come out came out of on top of these aerial confrontations.  Also, although the relative motion of fighter to fighter engaging head-on could reach speeds approaching 2,000 m.p.h., little had change in the art of aerial combat since the days of Baron von Richthofen.  As is pointed out in this book, while weapon systems are light-years away from that used during World War I, the basic air-to-air tactics and the dogfight essentially remained the same.  This book also describes the use of the intermediate range radar-guided Sparrow missile and the close range heat-seeking Sidewinder missile.  Both missiles were effectively used against the aircraft flown by the North Vietnamese Air Force.  That said, this book points out that in the middle of aerial combat firing either one of these missiles could lead to the downing of a wingman if the fellow pilot were not careful.  It is for this reason that when a Navy pilot fired a Sparrow missile he would always call-out Fox One which was the signal for a wingman to disengage and move away from the enemy bogey thus increasing the odds the this missile would hit the "bad-guy".  In a similar fashion, when a Navy pilot fired a Sidewinder missile he would call out Fox Two to signal a wingman to disengage and move away from the enemy target.  From 1965 to 1971, the US Navy scored 29 kills with Sidewinders.  During the period of time covered in Fox Two, Navy pilots were credited with 23 Sidewinder kills and one Sparrow kill.  The title of this book was selected because Commander Randy Cunningham scored all five of his victories with Sidewinder missiles.  The major sections of this book are as follows: 1) Preface; 2) Connie Under Protest; 3) Death Runs Deep; 4) Operation Proud Deep; 5) My First Kill; 6) North Vietnamese Invasion; 7) MiG Masters; 8) Mining the Harbors; 9) Turkey Shoot; 10) Home; 11) Appendix A - The Air Combat Arena; 12) Appendix - B The North Vietnamese Air Force; 13) Appendix C - Glossary; 14) Appendix D - The Aircraft and 15) Index.  In addition to a fascinating narrative, "Fox Two: America's First Ace in Vietnam" includes the following features: 1) 29 black and white photographs and 2) 1 map.  This book is 161 pages and is in good condition.  The author is Randy Cunningham with Jeff Ethell.  Edition published in 1984.
