The development of the Northrup F-5A Freedom Fighter began in 1954 and it first flew in 1959. From its inception, this twin-engined fighter was developed to have lower production and maintenance costs, rugged construction, simplicity and the ability to operate from unimproved forward airfields with minimum support facilities. This jet fighter has two 20 mm cannon and can carry a wide assortment of missles, bombs, rockets, cameras and extended range drop tanks. The F-5A has been exported to such countries as Iran, Norway, Greece, Turkey, South Korea and Nationalist China and is basically similar to the T-38 Talon advanced trainer used by the U.S. Air Force. Power for the F-5A is provided by two J-85-GE-13 turbojets each of 4,080 lbs of thrust which gives this fighter a top-speed of approximately Mach 1.4. This old, out-of-production Northrup F-5A Freedom Fighter model includes illustrated assembly instructions, authentic Iranian Air Force markings and a display stand. The package is in very good condition with a slight tape-tear on the upper right-hand corner of the front package. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
