The book, Fw 190 D Walk Around (# 10), is a pictorial study of the "Dora" variant of the famed World War II era German Fw 190.  The Fw 190 D was an in-line variant of the legendary radial engined Fw 190.  The in-line engine installation plus airframe modifications were designed to increase the Fw 190's performance at altitudes above 24,000 feet which is where the American bomber formations operated.  The Fw-190 D was meant to be a quick solution for the requirement of high-altitude fighters to defend against the American bombers.  While the much modified Ta-152 was designed to fit this requirement, it was not projected to be available until late 1944 or early 1945.  In the meantime, the Fw-190 D which included a number of subvariants was produced more quickly and it began equipping operational Luftwaffe squadrons in August, 1944.  While the initial reaction of the Luftwaffe pilots to the Fw-190 D was less than enthusiastic, once the pilots became familiar with the aircraft, they were quite pleased with its capabilities and performance. In the final analysis, the Fw 190 D series is considered bymany to be the best piston engine Luftwaffe fighter used in quantity during World War II.  In addition to an informative narrative, this book includes the following features: 1)  Approximately 112 black and white photographs; 2) About 102 color photographs; 3) Approximately 46 black and white illustrations; 4) 6 color illustrations; 5) 15 color side aircraft profiles with unit markings; 6) 2 cover paintings and 7) One 2-page painting guide.  This book is 80 pages and is in excellent condition.  The authors are E. Brown Ryle and Malcolm Laing with Don Greer (colorist) and Ernesto Cumpian (illulstrations).  Edition published in 1997.
