The book, Gato-Class Submarines (Warships Number 28), is a pictorial review of the American Gato-Class of submarines used so successfully during World War II.  American submarines were a decisive element in winning World War II in the Pacific combat theater accounting for more than 50% of the nearly 10 million tons of Japanese merchant and naval shipping lost during the war.  In addition to sinking enemy shipping, the Gato-Class of submarines carried out other important duties such as espionage, pilot rescue and reconnaissance.  The burden of the submarine war from 1942 to end of the war in 1945 was borne by the United States Navy's Gato-Class of submarines including the Balao and Tench variants.  These submarines were so dependable and effective that many of them, after receiving postwar refits, continued to serve both in the United States and Allied foreign navies well after the end of the war.  In addition to an informative narrative and photograph captions, "Gato-Class Submarines (Warships Number 28)" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 98 black and white illustrations; 2) 19 color photographs; 3) About 39 black and white line illustrations and 4) 8 color illustrations.  This book is 56 pages and is in new condition.  The author is Robert C. Stern with Don Greer (colorist).  Edition published in 2009.
