The book, German Fighting Vehicles 1939 - 1945, reviews the major types of non-tank vehicles that were fielded by German Army, Luftwaffe and SS military units during World War II. When Germany went to war in September, 1939, the spearhead of her armored forces were the Panzer Divisions. What made the German Panzer divisions unique, was the use of motorized infantry vehicles that could quickly follow behind a bridgehead opened up my Germany's tank forces. Other vehicles including fire support and supply vehicles also followed close behind German tanks. The military doctrine of designing and deploying many different types of vehicles all functioning together was ahead of its time at the beginning of World War II but was eventually adobted by most of the Allied military forces as well.
