The book, German Twin-Engine Bombers Of World War II represents a pictorial study of the most important piston engine medium bombers flown by the Luftwaffe during World War II. “German Twin-Engine Bombers Of World War II” includes a brief summary of the, at first clandestine growth in bomber squadrons during mid to late 1930s. While the Treaty Of Versailles in 1919 forbid the Germans from developing bomber aircraft, the new German Luftwaffe found ingenious ways of developing aircraft and training crews beginning in January 1934. Over time, as the German Luftwaffe grew in size and scope all pretenses to only developing commercial aircraft was dropped. Although the Ju-52 and Ju-86 were indeed initially flown commercially, the later Ju- 88 along with the Do-17, He-111 and Me-210 families of twin-engine bombers were developed from the ground-up as offensive weapons of war. The brief summary of the origins of the twin-engine German bomber force flown so successfully during the first years of World War II sets the stage for a short narrative on each of the primary bombers flown during the war, which is followed by many interesting vintage black and white photographs. The major sections of “German Twin-Engine Bombers Of World War II” are as follows: 1) Foreword; 2) Origins; 3) Dornier Do-17-215; 4) Dornier Do-217-317-417; 5) Heinkel He 111; 6) Junkers Ju 86; 7) Junkers Ju 88; 8) Junkers Ju 188; 9) Ju 288; 10) Ju 388; 11) Focke-Wulf 191; 12) Messerschmitt Me 210 And 410; 13) Dornier Do 335 and 14) Messerschmitt Me 329. In addition to the narrative, this book includes the following features: 1) Approximately 105 black and white photographs; 2) 1 rare wartime color photograph; 3) About 9 black and white illustrations; 4) 8 color side aircraft profile illustrations; 5) 1 single page black and white illustration depicting the “Development Of The 2-Engined Ju-88 Dive bomber and 6) 1 single page black and white illustration comparing the “Technical Data” amongst the German aircraft being reviewed. This book is 52 pages and is in excellent condition. The author is Manfred Griehl. Edition published in 1989.
