The book, German War Birds: From World War I To NATO Ally represents a pictorial study of over 150 aircraft types from World War I up through the radar guided, nuclear weapon carrying aircraft flying in the mid-1980s.  While aircraft are presented across this entire timeframe, the author's stated bias is towards the war periods of 1914 - 1919 and especially 1939 - 1945.  This bias has been shaped by the fact that the Luftwaffe of Nazi Germany has acquired a mystique since the end of World War II, unrivaled by any other military air arm in aviation history.  Much of the material published in this book comes from the fourteen-volume "Pocket Encyclopedia of World Aircraft in Color".  Aircraft from the following manufacturers are reviewed: 1) Albatros; 2) Halberstadt; 3) Fokker; 4) Zeppelin; 5) Rumpler; 6) Junkers; 7) Pfalz; 8) Henschel; 9) Heinkel; 10) Arado; 11) Messerschmit; 12) Dornier; 13) Blohm und Voss and 14) Focke-Wulf.  In addition to combat aircraft, the types covered in "German War Birds: from World War I To NATO Ally" include Flying Boats and Seaplanes, Helicopters, Spotter Planes and Transport aircraft.  Each of the highlighted aircraft includes a two-view color profile illustrations with the exact camouflage and markings of a representative example along with concise technical specifications.  There are also some in-depth profiles on the most memorable combat planes and the squadrons and aircrew who flew them.  Included in this section are many vintage black and white photographs of the actual combat aircraft as they went to war.  "German War Birds: From World War I To NATO Ally" is sure to appeal to both aviation enthusiasts and modelers alike.  This book is 176 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Kenneth Munson with John W. Wood (art editor).  Edition published in 1986.
