The book, Great Naval Battles #1: Hunting The Bismarck chronicles the events and antagonists involved in the British Home Fleet's to tracking down and destruction of the German Battleship Bismarck in May 1941.  For nine days in May, virtually the entire British Home Fleet tried to track her down and bring her to bay.  From the moment the Bismarck and her escort the heavy cruiser, Prince Eugen slipped into the North Atlantic to hunt for targets of opportunity, the British Navy made it a top priority to destroy her.  In the first brief engagement between the German Bismarck & Prince Eugen and the brand new British battleship HMS Prince of Wales & the battle cruiser HMS Hood in the freezing waters of the Denmark Strait, the Home Fleet suffered devastating losses.  Within thirty minutes the HMS Hood had been sunk and the HMS Prince of Wales was heavily damaged.  The Bismarck emerged from this engagement unscathed but a decision was soon made for the Prince Eugene to return to the German naval base in Brest France by a more southerly route.  The Bismarck, now alone, raced at top speed towards the open waters of the North Atlantic.  With dozens of British ships in pursuit of the Bismarck, the battleship seemed to evade the British ships.  Just when the Bismarck seemed to be beyond reach of the pursuing British forces, a small squadron of Swordfish bi-plane aircraft from the HMS Ark Royal tracked her down and launched their torpedoes resulting in at least one hit in the rear portion of the Bismarck, which resulted in the damaging of her rudder.  This battle damage caused the Bismarck to slow down, which gave the pursuing, ships the time they needed to catch-up with her.  After suffering additional damage from a second Swordfish attack, the ships of the Home Fleet caught up with the Bismarck.  In the ensuing attack the Bismarck was pummeled for two hours before finally sinking.  "Great Naval Battles #1: Hunting The Bismarck" includes the following major sections: 1) Introduction; 2) Context; 3) The commanders; 4) The opposing forces; 5) Logistics; 6) The battle arena; 7) The hunt for the Bismarck; 8) Aftermath; 9) Analysis; 10) Reference and 11) Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Great Naval Battles #1: Hunting The Bismarck" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 106 black and white photographs; 2) 7 color illustrations and 3) 19 maps.  This book is 96 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is Angus Konstam.  Edition published in 2003.
