The movie, Grumman F6F Hellcat (Roaring Glory Vol. 10) shot on location at Planes of Fame-Chino, California airport, is a documentary film centered on the Grumman F6F Hellcat that was arguably the most important American aircraft to fly and fight against the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy Air Forces in the Pacific combat theater during World War II.  "Grumman F6F Hellcat (Roaring Glory Vol. 10)" includes the following two parts: 1) Part I: Flying the F6F and 2) Part II: The Young Pilot's.  In Part I, noted war bird pilot and unlimited air racer Steve Hinton checks the viewer out on all of the features of this amazing Navy fighter both inside and out.  After a thorough pre-flight check, Steve lines up on the runway, releases his breaks and is soon airborne in the skies over southern California.  With altitude under his wings Steve, rolls and loops the F6F all-the-while explaining the many flying and fighting qualities of this legendary aircraft.  This "Cat from Hell" was designed by the Grumman "Ironworks" for only one purpose: to take the fight to the Japanese and blow every Zero out of the skies and in so doing win the battle for strategic air space over the Pacific Islands being fought over below.  In the final analysis, the Grumman F6F Hellcat was credited during World War II with destroying more Japanese aircraft than any other Allied fighter employed during the war.  Part II of this video examines, through reenactments, what it took for a US Marine Corps aviator to be selected to attend night fighter school.  This assignment was top secret and full of danger for the young pilots who had proven their flying skills and now were picked to be trained as night fighters.  In this reenactment, young US Marine Corps pilot Bruce Porter accepts the inherent risks in taking off from either an aircraft carrier or land base air field for the dangerous assignment of hunting the enemy down in total darkness.  It took nerves of steel and just plain guts since locating your aircraft carrier at night with no lights on was often a mix of intuition and fly-by-the-seat-of-your pants luck.  Archival film footage of F6F Hellcats in World War II action is used to complement this interesting portion of the video.  Full screen in both color and black & white.  Released in 1998.  Runtime 48 minutes.
