The Grumman F9F-8 Cougar was an aircraft-carrier based single seat Navy jet fighter that was developed from the earlier F9F Panther.  The primary difference between these two aircraft centered on the wing which was straight on the Panther but angled back in a swept wing configuration on the Cougar.  Over 600 of the F9F-8 Cougars were produced before it was officially retired in 1974.  The operational characteristics of the F9F-8 Cougar are as follows: 1) Top speed of almost 700 m.p.h.; 2) Range of just over 1,300 miles and 3) Service ceiling of 42,000 feet.  The F9F-8 Cougar was armed with four 20 mm cannon and it could carry up to 4 missiles and 2 bombs.  This older, out-of-production Grumman F9F-8 Cougar model was produced as a Special Limited Edition kit and it includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a F9F-8 Cougar used as a China Lake Sidewinder test plane or as an aircraft operated by the VM-311 Marine Attack Squadron; 2) Clear canopy; 3) Detailed cockpit; 4) Detailed landing gear; 5) Molded in light gray colored plastic; 6) Pilot figure; 7) Recessed panel lines; 8) Rivet detail; 9) Two sidewinder missiles with pylons and 10) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in like-new condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
