The H-19 B Chickasaw helicopter was designed towards the end of the 1940s for use by the United States Army, which introduced it during the latter stages of the Korean War in 1953. Although the H-19 was equipped with a low performance engine, it nevertheless became a reliable helicopter and was quickly used by the United States Cost Guard, Marine Corps and Navy for general transport tasks, as well as, rescue and anti-submarine missions. In addition, the Chickasaw was also utilized by the armed forces of many countries. Units produced under license in foreign countries were named the “Whirlwind”. The operating characteristics are as follows: 1) Top speed of 116 m.p.h. and Range of 254 miles.
