The movie, Halls Of Montezuma, is a hard-hitting war drama centered on a platoon of United States Marines who land on a Pacific Island and sustain heavy casualties while taking a strategic ridge.  Once on the ridge, the Marines are pinned down by Japanese rocket fire from an undectable location.   The platoon's tough Marine officer, Lt. Carl Anderson, is ordered to take a hand-picked patrol behind enemy lines to determine the scource of the rocket fire so that it can be targeted for destruction by United States forces.  The platoon is split between weary veterans and nervous new recruits which makes the selection of this hand picked group of soldiers an interesting challenge for Lt. Anderson who is also suffering from a mysterious medical condition.  This movie is a solid, well acted effort, which gives full weight to the terrible cost of war.  Starring Richard Widmark, Jack Palance and Robert Wagner among others.  Full screen in color.  Released in 1950.  Runtime 113 minutes.
